Get to know Dr. Claire Russell, O.D.

When did you know that you wanted to be an optometrist

I've always been interested in a career focused on people interaction, and especially enjoyed the sciences. I became interested in optometry when I studied the eye in 10th grade biology class. I had no idea how much you could learn about other health issues through an eye exam.

Favorite part of being an optometrist

My favorite part of being an optometrist is interacting with my patients. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know each of them on a personal level, and nothing can beat the satisfaction of helping identify and meet their vision needs.

Favorite vacation

I have been fortunate to have traveled to many different countries over the past few years, most recently the Amalfi Coast, and hope to do more of the same in the future. Closer to home, Charleston is a favorite destination.

Favorite concert you’ve been to

The Jonas Brothers when they toured Nashville in 2021. My friends and I were able to get seats right near the stage at the very last minute.

Specialty/Expertise

I am passionate about vision therapy, pediatric optometry, contact lens fitting and dry eye disease treatment.

Fun fact

I was a piano student for nearly 12 years and still enjoy playing when I have the opportunity.
