When did you know that you wanted to be an optometrist?
In medical school I decided that Optometry school would give me a more balanced family/work life than ophthalmology, so I dropped out and entered Optometry school.
Favorite part of being an optometrist
Making a difference in people's lives, through improved vision or more comfortable eyes and better health.
Favorite concert you’ve been to
Kenny Chesnee - 4th of July at Stadium of Fire
Do you have any pets?
I have yellow lab named Dusty, who is a cancer survivor, and keeps my kids safe. I also have an aquatic turtle, which my kids named Motorboat, because of his surprising speed on land or in water. (He's quick!)
I come from a family of optometrists. My grandfather was the first, graduating in 1952. He went to optometry school shortly after WW2, where he served as a flight navigator in Burma, and was called up to Korea during optometry school. He was able to serve as a naval chef and finish optometry school simultaneously, and opened his practice in an extension of house. There are now 10 optometrists in the family, including my father, all of my 3 siblings, one of which is my twin brother.
