Dr. Kou received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009.

She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 2013 and completed her optometric residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at VA Boston in 2014. Originally from California, she moved to North Carolina and joined Triangle Visions in 2017.

She enjoys practicing full scope optometry with a special interest in ocular disease and specialty contact lenses.

Get to know Dr. Sandra Kou, O.D.

When did you know that you wanted to be an optometrist

I love caring for patients of all life stages, and getting to build relationships with my patients and their family members. The eyes are are such an integral part of our everyday life, and I enjoy being able to work together with my patients to optimize their vision while maintaining healthy eyes.

Favorite part of being an optometrist

I love the intimate ways I get to know my patients, what is going on in their lives and families.  I love living with a sense of community- everyone helping one another using their own gifts and talents. Life changes if you can’t see and helping preserve vision is incredibly rewarding for me!

Favorite vacation

I love visiting our country’s awesome national parks. My most recent favorite is Zion National Park. There are many great hikes with amazing vistas and rock formations to see along the way. I can’t wait to go back!

Favorite concert you’ve been to

Adele – she is so talented, and is funny too!

Fun fact

I speak two other languages (besides English) – Mandarin and Spanish.
